Bathroom door in the afternoon

Another waypoint in my quest to paint more about less. This is the sunset grazing the bottom of our bathroom door.

“What I wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house.” Edward Hopper.

Well said, Ed.

  1. Funny you should mention Hopper. After seeing your last (lamp) painting and this one, I was going to say they reminded me of Hoppers. 🙂

Lovely painting. Lots of emotion. Keep up the great work, Phil.

    1. Thanks Chris. As always you are very kind. I have been looking at Hopper a lot lately, and I must admit I am experimenting with what appear to be his techniques for using colours. I have noticed a lot of his paintings seem to either have a blue tone (specifically a prussian blue tone) or a naples yellow tone that seems to permeate all of the colours, in a way that lends an overall unity to the picture. At least, that is how it looks to me.

    1. Thank you, Judith. I love Hopper too – such a unique vision. I really enjoy your posts about your artistic discoveries and I look forward to them. It is such a pleasure to be a part of an online community that so encourages its members.

      1. I agree that our online art community is awesome! I have learned so much from others, and I’m glad that I can share my experiences in learning to draw and paint, in hopes of encouraging others.
