A water-borne tiny plant, floating in a bottle, in the front window of a long-shuttered bar in Fitzroy. Its roots are getting unruly. Another small example of nature taking over from us during the Great Pause.

Coo-ee from north-western Tasmania

Coo-ee is a very small town near Burnie in the west of Tasmania, where it seems to rain every day. A great name for a town, but not my favourite; that belongs to nearby Penguin.

Coo-ee is small, but not so small that it lacked its own cordial company. Here is a bottle of Coo-ee raspberry.


I bought a packet of 20 envelopes at Itoya Ginza in around 1996. Little did I realise that with the advent of email, this would turn out to be a lifetime’s supply. Here is one of the (many) I still have.
